That’s a Wrap on 2019!

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK slays for BBC iPlayer

At the start of 2019, 3 Mills Studios hosted the very first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK – the fabulous US competition format which has taken the world by storm.

Our studios have hosted many great British formats throughout the years – from the first and second season of Big Brother, to Project Runway, Million Pound Drop and since 2014 the nation’s favourite – MasterChef. The full series is now available on BBC iPlayer for a Xmas box-set catchup! *no spoilers*.   Learn More

A GREAT year for TV Drama

We kicked off the year with ‘This Way Up’ (produced by Merman) and ‘Year of the Rabbit’ (by Objective Fiction) for Channel 4, followed closely by some scenes for ‘Giri/Haji’ (by Sister) and ‘Killing Eve 2’ (pictured below, by Sid Gentle Films) for BBC.

Production will be winding down soon for the winter break on two new TV dramas coming to our screens in 2020.

‘The Third Day’ produced by Plan B for Sky and HBO, created by Dennis Kelly and Felix Barrett and directed by both Marc Munden (‘National Treasure’) and Philippa Lowthorpe (‘Three Girls’), and features a stellar cast of Jude Law, Naomie Harris, Katherine Waterston, Emily Watson and Paddy Considine. Learn more about The Third Day (Screen).

‘The Great’ produced by MRC for Hulu is written by Tony McNamara (‘The Favourite’) and directed by directing-duo Bert & Bertie (‘Troop Zero’). The show is an anti-historical ride through 18th Century Russia following the wildly comic rise of young Catherine the Great, starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. Lewis Capaldi Breaks America with ‘Someone You Loved’ Promo

Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’ rose to the top of the Hot 100 in the States after six months in the UK charts. Capaldi stormed the US Billboard with the release of an atmospheric new video for the track, which was filmed at night on our historic cobbled street and heritage exteriors, by the talented team at Partizan. A STEP in the right direction for Creative Careers

For the second year running, 3 Mills is partnering with STEP (the Shared Training and Enterprise Programme, ran by A New Direction). The programme places local trainees with creative and cultural organisations such as Sadlers Wells, Bow Arts, UCL, V&A, and London College of Fashion.

Congratulations to the team behind STEP who were awarded the Arts & Culture Award at the Children & Young People Now Awards 2019.

Theatre continues to thrive

It has been another busy year for our theatre rehearsals – including ENO’s ‘Akhnaten’ & ‘Magic Flute’, ‘& Juliet’ (a re-imagining of the Romeo & Juliet story, to the music of Max Martin), the return of the talented Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures and the wonderful West End production of ‘Mary Poppins’ (pictured below, produced by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh) to name a few…

The 3 Mills team have been busy making improvements to Stage 1 and the Rooftop theatre facilities, ready for a jam-packed schedule in the new year.

As the sun sets on 2019, we look forward to 2020…

This is just a small sample of the projects we have been working on this year – we look forward to sharing many more once they have been announced!

In 2020 we will be hosting 3 Mills’ first ever eSports tournament, continuing with ‘The Great’, and have lots planned in the areas of campus events, sustainability and further learning & development initiatives.

We hope you have a fantastic break & we look forward to working with you in 2020!
